Gary Trousdale: In the book and several of the movies, Quasimodo talks to the gargoyles. We thought, “This is Disney, we’re doing a cartoon. The gargoyles can talk back.” One thing led to another and we’ve got “A Guy Like You.”Home & Garden

Generally animated movies need to be 90 minutes or less because the budgets. There’s no cheap animated movies. They’re usually above $50 million, just to start. You learn very quickly to pack as much into a scene as humanly possible. That’s why the Pixar movies work so well. That’s why they’re masters of it, because they are great at getting a lot of ideas and thoughts, whether it’s story stuff or character stuff, and dovetailing all that stuff together. But when you ask Joe something, when you do need help, he’s right there. He doesn’t give a lot of hoity-toity direction. He’s to the point. “This is what I’d like to see.” I tell you something, there have been many times since when I have prayed or wished that it could be Joe. But there’s a first time for everything.

Remember when Hollywood made blockbusters that were funny and sexy? One of the last good examples of this is probably The Mask of Zorro, an utterly delightful take on the Zorro story starring incredibly attractive people Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Loaded with swashbuckling adventure, sex appeal, and a good sense of humor, this is more enjoyable than pretty much any blockbuster released in the 21st century so far.
